Nepal misses opportunity to play Asia Cup, loses to Malaysia by four wickets



KATHMANDU: The Nepali women’s cricket team’s ambition to participate in the Asia Cup has eluded them for eight years.

In the semi-final of the ACC Women’s Premier Cup, Nepal faced a defeat at the hands of Malaysia by four wickets, shattering their dream of playing in the Asia Cup.

Nepal batted first, posting a total of 115 runs in their innings.

However, Malaysia successfully chased the target, securing victory with four wickets in hand.

Elsa Hunter’s remarkable innings of 69 runs played a pivotal role in Malaysia’s triumph.

Nepal’s Kabita Joshi claimed two wickets during the match.

Ahead of this encounter, Nepal had set a target of 115 runs, with Indu Barma contributing 29 runs, and Dali Bhatta adding 24 runs to the total.

With Malaysia’s triumph, the team has earned the coveted opportunity to compete in the Asia Cup.

In the preceding semi-final, UAE edged past Thailand by four runs, securing their spot in the Asia Cup. Now, UAE and Malaysia are set to battle it out in the final showdown.
