KATHMANDU: Veronique Lorenzo, the European Union (EU) Ambassador to Nepal, affirmed the EU’s commitment to supporting Nepal in inclusive green growth, human capital development, and good governance.

Speaking at a press conference marking 50 years of diplomatic ties between Nepal and the EU, Ambassador Lorenzo stated that the EU would assist Nepal in transitioning to a greener economy to address climate change while fostering job creation and business opportunities.

She emphasized collaboration with the Nepalese government to improve education quality, particularly for girls, aiming to enhance human resources development.

“This year we celebrate 50 years of steadfast partnership, which grows stronger every year with our unwavering commitments to work together for peace and prosperity,” Ambassador Veronique Lorenzo said.

“As Nepal advances towards graduating from LDC status by 2026, the EU and its Member States, our “Team Europe”, will continue to support Nepal in three areas key for its development –Inclusive Green Growth, Human Capital Development, and Good Governance,” she said.

She further added, “As we move forward, the EU Global Gateway, our new comprehensive approach to investing in development, will support renewable energy, where Nepal has a massive potential.”

Ambassador Lorenzo also highlighted the EU’s forthcoming efforts in supporting Nepal’s implementation of federalism and strengthening local-level performance for democratic governance.

She also outlined various events during the year-long celebration, such as the Nepal-EU Film Festival, EU-Nepal Business Forum, and Study in Europe fair, under the theme “Growing Stronger Together.”
