PM Dahal vows border area development and trade boost

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has underscored the government’s commitment to organizing the development of border areas and promoting trade through diplomatic channels in the upcoming days.

Addressing the 24th General Meeting of the Nepal Himalayan Cross Border Chamber of Commerce, Prime Minister Prachanda expressed awareness of the crucial need to establish the necessary infrastructure to facilitate business growth.

Highlighting his focus on the operation of inland and commercial borders between Nepal and China during his third term in office, the Prime Minister noted the positive impact on traffic and economic activities at northern borders, including Tatopani.

Reflecting on his last visit to China, Prime Minister Prachanda reported extensive discussions about border area development, addressing local residents’ concerns, and outlining the collaborative roles of both the Chinese government and Chinese cooperation.

“In my visit to China, we delved into the collaborative efforts between Nepal and China for the region’s development,” stated Prime Minister Prachanda.

“The historic discussions included the transfer of production certificates and living materials for Nepal’s northern mountainous region, marking a qualitative leap in cross-border trade promotion,” he added.

He applauded the growth of the organization, formerly known as the Tatopani Business Cooperation Association.

Evolving into the Nepal Himalayan Cross Border Commercial Association, it has become an umbrella organization for businesses engaged with China.

With 1,020 active members, the organization facilitates trade between importers and exporters in both countries.

Prime Minister Dahal also acknowledged the role of the organization’s contact units at the northern customs checkpoints of Tatopani and Rasuwa in managing cross-border trade.
