U.S. security adviser seeks stronger ties with South Korea

SEOUL (Reuters) – U.S. national security adviser John Bolton has discussed bilateral issues including South Korea’s trade spat with Japan, regional air space dispute, and North Korea’s stalled nuclear talks, among other issues with South Korean officials in Seoul.

Bolton met South Korea’s chief of National Security Office (NSC) Chung Eui-yong, Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha, and Defense Minister Jeong Kyeong-doo and discussed denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula as well as ways to strengthen the US-South Korea alliance.

After the meeting, Bolton said the main objective they had was to emerge with a stronger ROK-US alliance. Meanwhile, Bolton and Kang mentioned broad goals on issues like North Korea.

The United States has been seeking to win its allies’ support to heighten surveillance of Middle East oil shipping lanes. (Agencies)
