Public outcry against Mayor Balen Shah ( In Photos)

KATHMANDU: Recent discontent among the public in Kathmandu has been vividly captured in images depicting their dissatisfaction with Mayor Balen Shah.

The focal point of this unrest is Shanti Batika, located near Rani Pokhari, where individuals staging protests, including sit-ins, have been met with restrictions imposed by the metropolis.

Accusations have been leveled against Mayor Shah, alleging his involvement in promoting violence and fostering animosity in what is supposed to be a place of peace – Shanti Batika.

Reports indicate that individuals participating in sit-ins were forcibly removed from the area by local authorities on grounds of making the surroundings unclean.

Among those expressing their grievances were the family members of Aarati Shah, a victim of dowry-related violence. Their attempts to stage a protest, particularly a sit-in, were thwarted, leading them to denounce Mayor Shah as a dictator for denying them their right to peaceful demonstration.

Below are glimpses captured around Shanti Batika on Thursday taken by Khabarhub Photojournalist Chirayu Shakya, depicting the charged atmosphere and the sentiments of the public:
