KATHMANDU: Nepal defeated Malaysia by 7 wickets at the fifth match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia Finals held at the Indian Association Ground in Singapore on Wednesday.
Chasing the 84-run target set by Malaysia, Nepal reached the target in eight overs, losing three wickets. Skipper Gyanendra Malla set a record by scoring 51 runs including five fours and three sixes off 21 balls. Similarly, Binod Bhandari made 13 runs off eight balls and remained not out while Pradeep Airee made 12 runs including one four off 14 balls.
In reply, Muhamad Syahadat took three wickets of Nepal giving away 19 runs in two overs.
Earlier, invited to bat first after losing the toss, Malaysia had notched up 83 runs in nine overs, losing 7 wickets. Syed Aziz top-scored with 30 runs including five fours and one six off 15 balls and Virandeep Singh made 21 runs off 17 balls while the other batsmen could not reach double digit runs.
In reply, Nepal’s Sompal Kami claimed three wickets, Basanta Regmi grabbed two wickets and Karan KC one wicket each.
The match had been reduced to nine overs due to rain.
