Winter session of Federal Parliament commences today

KATHMANDU: The Winter Session of the Federal Parliament is all set to kick off from Monday.

President Ramchandra Paudel had earlier summoned a meeting of the House of Representatives on February 5 based on the government’s recommendation.

According to Dasharath Dhamala, Joint Spokesperson of the Federal Parliament Secretariat, all necessary preparations for the winter session have been completed.

Currently, there are 24 bills in the federal parliament, with 15 of them under discussion in the respective parliamentary committees.

Joint Spokesperson Dhamala added that the upcoming session will also include pre-budget discussions.

As of now, the House of Representatives comprises 88 Nepali Congress members, 78 members of the CPN (UML), 32 members of the CPN (Maoist Center), 21 of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, 14 members of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, 12 of the Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal (JSP), 10 of the CPN (Unified Socialist), 6 MPs from the Janamat Party, four from the Loktantrik Samajbadi Party, and four from the Nagarik Unmukti party.

Additionally, there is one MP each from Nepal Majdoor Kissan Party, Rastriya Janamorcha, Aam Janata Party, and two independent MPs represented in the House of Representatives.

As per constitutional provisions, the House of Representatives will consist of 275 members, with 165 elected through the electoral system and 110 through proportional representation.
