NC scrutinizes NA election and alleged floor crossing in Koshi province

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) is deeply involved in deliberations concerning the National Assembly election held in Koshi Province and the reported issue of floor crossing.

Sources from the party headquarters have confirmed that discussions on this matter are currently underway.

A high-ranking source within the party stated, “Despite a clear majority in favor of the ruling coalition candidate in Koshi province, one candidate had a poor performance. It requires a thorough review.”

In this context, NC leaders have accused factions within the party of orchestrating floor crossing.

Prime Minister and CPN-Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has reportedly expressed his dissatisfaction with the issue by giving a phone call to NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba.

UML leader Rukmini Koirala secured a victory, defeating her close contender, the ruling coalition candidate Champa Devi Karki in Koshi. NC leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula secured a victory with 5,292 votes, while Karki garnered only 4,922 votes. UML’s Koirala secured 5,086 votes.

The alleged floor crossing incident in Koshi province has further exacerbated the misunderstanding between the major coalition partners in Koshi.

Earlier, NC leader Kedar Karki had filed his candidacy for the post of Chief Minister, challenging the ruling coalition’s central leader’s decision to support the Maoist Center candidate for the post of Chief Minister.

After Karki, backed by CPN-UML, refused to withdraw his candidacy, the ruling coalition decided to support Karki as its Chief Minister.
