Muglin-Pokhara Road Expansion: Blacktopping commences in west section

DAMAULI: The blacktopping process has initiated in the west section of Tanahun as part of the Muglin-Pokhara road expansion project.

The road project, covering the west section from Shuklagandaki municipality-2 to Haledi in the district under the Jamune-Pokhara, has commenced blacktopping.

Engineer and Information Officer Narayan Poudel of the Road Section reported that a 420-meter one-way blacktopping was completed on the first day, Thursday.

The goal is to complete blacktopping for the one-way five-kilometer section by March 13. Poudel mentioned that blacktopping activities would extend from Jamune of Myagde rural municipality to Belchautara of Shuklagandaki municipality starting today.

He assured that the work would gain momentum, with adequate human resources and equipment prepared.

In the initial phase, the focus is on one-way blacktopping, with plans to progress to two-way blacktopping once the one-way work advances.

he road project is utilizing asphalt technology for the blacktopping process. The work in the western section, spanning from Jamun to Pokhara, commenced on August 29, 2021, following an agreement signed on May 14, 2021.

The construction contract for this section was awarded to the Chinese company Yanhui Kaiyun Highway and Bridge Construction, with a budget of Rs 7.40 billion. The stipulated deadline for completing the construction in the western section is August 2024.

Local resident Shankar Panta expressed optimism as blacktopping work began, stating that the locals, who had been troubled by dust and mud on the road, are pleased to see progress in blacktopping after a prolonged period since the road expansion began.

Panta affirmed the community’s commitment to monitoring construction works continuously to ensure quality.

The progress of work in the Muglin-Pokhara road expansion project’s western section has been relatively slow.

However, materials required for blacktopping the 20-kilometer section in the western part have been arranged.

Simultaneously, approximately 20 kilometers of the eastern section have already undergone blacktopping.

The contract for the eastern section was awarded to China Communications Construction, with a deadline set for mid-May 2024.
