Protests emerge in response to New Road parking ban in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: The recent ban on parking in the New Road area by the Kathmandu Metropolitan City has sparked protests from local beneficiaries and traders.

The Metropolitan City issued a notice on Tuesday, announcing the prohibition of vehicle parking in the New Road area.

This move prompted demonstrations from various business organizations, including the Sanchaya Kosh Bhawan Byapar Sangh and the Khichapokhari New Road Traders Association.

Protesters are advocating for alternative parking solutions to ensure minimal disruption to their businesses in the area.

The ban on parking extends from Dharmapath Juddhashalik to road sections leading towards Indrachowk, Khichapokhari, Pyukha, Mahaboudha, and Pako New Road.

During the protests, shop owners closed their businesses for nearly 2 hours and organized programs expressing their opposition to the parking ban.

Meanwhile, the Metropolitan City has asserted that parking arrangements have been made at the Old Bus Park, near the Kathmandu View Tower, urging people to utilize that space for parking.
