Govt forms committee to nominate SEBON Chair, eight aspirants in the race



KATHMANDU: The government has constituted a committee tasked with suggesting a suitable candidate for the position of Chairperson at the Securities Board of Nepal.

According to sources, the committee was established under the coordination of Dr. Min Bahadur Shrestha, Vice Chairman of the National Planning Commission, in accordance with Clause 7(3) of the Nepal Securities Board Act 2007, during a cabinet session on Wednesday.

The committee comprises Dr. Krishna Hari Puskar, Secretary at the Ministry of Finance, and Uday Niraula, Associate Professor at Shankar Dev Campus.

Moving forward, the committee will develop the process for selecting the chairman, release official announcements, and invite applications. After receiving applications, the committee will shortlist three candidates and present their recommendations to the government for the final appointment of the chairman.

The proposal, once submitted to the Ministry of Finance, will be elevated to the government by the Minister, and the cabinet will make the final decision by selecting one candidate from the recommended names.

Eight individuals have expressed their interest in the Chairmanship of the Board.

Sources indicate that among the contenders for the chairman position are Mukti Shrestha, the executive director of the Board, Dr. Navaraj Adhikari, and Krishna Pokharel, the executives at the Board, and Chandra Singh Saud, former CEO of Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE).

Additionally, former chairman of Nepal Insurance Authority, Chiranjibi Chapagai, former executive officer of the Board Niraj Giri, former Deputy Governors of Nepal Rastra Bank Shivaraj Shrestha, and Chintamani Shiwakoti are notable candidates in the race.
