POKHARA: The 4th edition of the ‘Tiger Cup National and International Invitational Club Level Women’s and Men’s Volleyball’ tournament is set to kick off today in Pokhara.

Narayan Sharma, President of the Tiger Group of Pokhara, said that all arrangements for the volleyball spectacle, hosted at the Volleyball Training Center within Pokhara Stadium under the auspices of the Tiger Group of Pokhara, have been finalized.

The inaugural match is slated to be a face-off between the home team of Gandaki Province and the Nepal Army Club.

Simultaneously, on the women’s side, the Departmental team APF Club will lock horns with Nepal Police Club.

The playing field has undergone a thorough makeover, including painting, cleaning, the construction of a stage, and the installation of a temporary parapet for the impending competition.

Sharma expressed optimism that this edition would surpass its predecessors in excitement and competitiveness, attributing this to the inclusion of two foreign clubs and international players for the first time.

In preparation for the tournament, a temporary parapet with a seating capacity of 10,000 has been erected at the Pokhara Rangshala Volleyball Training Center.

Deepak Karki, the competition coordinator, shared that each day would witness four matches, two for women and two for men.

The Women’s Police Club of Haryana State from India has marked its debut in Pokhara for this event.

Six teams, including Chandragiri Municipality New Diamond Sports Club, Gandaki Province, and three departmental teams—Nepal Police Club, Tribhuvan Club of Nepal Army, and APF of Armed Police—are gearing up for the challenge.

On the men’s side, the Sri Lankan Army team is making its inaugural appearance, joining three departmental teams, Tribhuvan Club of Nepal Army, Nepal Police Club, and APF Club of Armed Police, alongside Help Nepal Sports Club and the organizer’s team in the quest for the title.

Sharma said that the winning women’s and men’s teams will receive Rs.5 lakh 55 thousand 555 along with trophy medals and certificates.

Additionally, outstanding performers in specific roles such as best server, best setter, best blocker, best libero, best spiker, and best coach will be honored with cash prizes of Rs. 10,555 each, as stated by Indra Prasad Paudel, the publicity coordinator of the tournament.
