Police nab woman for fraudulent activities promising people job in Portugal



KATHMANDU: An individual has been apprehended on charges of fraudulent activities promising to send people to Portugal.

Urmila Chemjong, aged 48, residing in Kirtipur’s Tyanglaphant, was detained for her frauds relating to foreign employment.

Chemjong allegedly convinced two individuals, including Sangat Thapa, promising them foreign employment in Portugal. For this purpose, she demanded a sum of 1 million rupees per person, assuring them jobs in a reputable company upon reaching Portugal where the monthly salary would be 100,000 rupees. Through repeated persuasions, she deceitfully took 1.05 million rupees from them.

In the course of investigating these allegations of fraud, a police team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigatin Office apprehended Chemjong on Wednesday from Tyanglaphant, Kirtipur.

The authorities have notified that further investigations and necessary actions will be taken by the Foreign Employment Department, based in Tahachal, for additional inquiries and legal proceedings.
