No foul play in Rs 20 crore investment agreement with India: PM

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda sought to allay concerns surrounding the recent Rs 20 crore investment agreement with India while addressing Law, Justice, and Human Rights Committee at Singha Durbar today.

PM Dahal clarified that there is no provision for India to unilaterally choose and implement projects, ensuring a collaborative approach.

He further assured that the project’s implementation would undergo regular monitoring, with updates provided by Nepal government institutes.

Highlighting the focus on physical and social infrastructure development, Prime Minister Dahal asserted the government’s authority to make decisions regarding the agreement.

He underscored the commitment to transparent governance by stating that the investment would be utilized for the betterment of Nepal.

In addition, Prime Minister Dahal mentioned India’s reservations about purchasing electricity directly invested by the Chinese government, emphasizing the independence of each country in electricity production.

The assurance comes in the wake of an agreement reached during the visit of Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar to Nepal last week.

The Nepal-India Joint Commission agreed to export 10,000 electricity from Nepal to India over the next 10 years.
