Birgunj shuts down schools amidst severe cold; health issues rise



BIRGUNJ: All community and private schools within Birgunj Metropolitan City have been closed for a week from today due to excessive cold for the past few days.

The schools were closed till January 15 at the request of the metropolis as the children started facing problems in teaching learning activities due to the increase in cold aggravated by the cold wave and thick fog.

Education Officer Hari Raut shared that the decision was taken to give winter vacation at all community and private schools till January 15 as per the decision of a meeting of the metropolis’ Education Committee on January 7.

However, teaching-learning activities at some schools will be closed after the ongoing examinations at the schools are over.

Meanwhile, the normal life of Parsa has been affected by to cold wave and chilling cold. The number of patients visiting different hospitals has also increased.

Birgunj-based Narayani Hospital, a government health institution of remote areas has been witnessing an increasing number of patients suffering from common cold and cough, fever, and respiratory problems, according to the District Health Office.

Movement of people at the district headquarters, and other market areas of the district as well as pressure on service recipients at government offices has decreased following the chilling cold.

Around 30-35 patients suffering from colds visit Narayani Hospital every day, said Information Officer at the Hospital, Uday Narayan Singh.
