Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah assumes chief guest role at Dharan Day as PM misses event

DHARAN: After the unsuccessful attempt to invite Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ to the inauguration ceremony of the ‘Dharan Day’ program held on Friday, Mayor Balendra Shah of Kathmandu Metropolitan City attended the event as the special guest.

Mayor Shah was present as a special guest upon the request of Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City Mayor Harka Sampang Rai.

Elected independently in Kathmandu and Dharan, both mayors are quite active on social media. The work and statements of both mayors often attract attention on social media.

During the inauguration ceremony held at the Public High School ground, mayors from Kathmandu and Dharan were seen together on the stage. Earlier, Dharan Mayor and Deputy Mayor had invited Prime Minister Dahal for the event.

However, due to the Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar’s visit to Nepal during the ‘Dharan Day’, it was reported that PM Dahal couldn’t make it to Dharan.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the Prime Minister’s absence, Mayor Sampang reportedly replaced the photographs of Prime Minister Dahal and President Ramchandra Paudel with pictures of Kirati King Yalamber from his office.
