Sandeep Lamichhane to appeal at High Court seeking revision of conviction in rape case

KATHMANDU: Former Captain of Nepal’s Men Cricket Team, Sandeep Lamichhane, is poised to file an appeal at the High Court to challenge his conviction in a rape case.

The Kathmandu District Court delivered a guilty verdict on Friday, with Judge Shirish Raj Dhakal concluding that the victim was no longer a minor at the time of the incident. However, Lamichhane was declared guilty of a relationship without consent.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the decision, Lamichhane’s advocate, Saroj Krishna Ghimire, affirmed their intent to appeal at the High Court for a revision.

As per Section 219 (3) of the National Penal Code Act, 2017, Lamichhane could face an imprisonment term of seven to ten years, considering the victim’s age being eighteen or above.
