KATHMANDU: Startling data from the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office reveals that an average of 25 accidents involving two-wheelers, particularly motorcycles and scooters, are reported daily in the Kathmandu Valley.
During the first five months of the current fiscal year, a total of 3,834 two-wheeler accidents have been registered, resulting in a daily average of 25 incidents. Tragically, 70 individuals have lost their lives due to injuries sustained in these accidents during the same period.
Following closely behind, cars, vans, and jeeps rank as the second most accident-prone vehicles in the valley, with the number of accidents reaching 3,038 in the past five months.
Public transportation vehicles have also seen their share of accidents, with buses leading the statistics, followed by micro-vans with 874 and 146 accidents, respectively.
Notably, approximately 80 percent of the total vehicles on the roads in the valley are two-wheelers.
