KATHMANDU: Bhutanese refugee leader Teknath Rizal, allegedly involved in the Fake Bhutanese Refugee Scam, has settled the bail amount in court for release from custody.

On Sunday, he accounted for 1.5 million rupees before the Kathmandu District Court and also received discharge papers from the court.

According to sources from the Central Jail Office, he will be released on Wednesday. In a case related to fake Bhutanese refugees, the Department of Money Laundering Investigation and the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had urged the Central Jail to clarify his status.

The Kathmandu District Court had previously ordered Rizal, allegedly involved in sending Nepali citizens to the United States as Bhutanese refugees, to be summoned for interrogation. However, the Patan High Court had ordered his discharge on a 1.5 million rupee bail.

Rizal will be released only on Wednesday as both Monday and Tuesday have been public holidays.
