Over 4,000 electric vehicles imported in five months

KATHMANDU: In the past five months, the importation of electric vehicles (EVs) has surged, with a remarkable tally exceeding 4,000.

Among these, 4,042 electric vehicles, encompassing both private vehicles and micros, have made their way into the country.

Breaking down the figures, a notable 1,595 car jeeps with power ratings up to 50 kW were among the imported vehicles during this period.

The Department of Customs stated that 52 vehicles falling within the 100 to 200 kW range were brought in, along with 2,028 vehicles falling between 51 to 100 kW.

The influx of high-powered electric vehicles is evident as well, with 11 private vehicles boasting a capacity above 201 kW successfully imported.

In the realm of public transport, 134 micro buses with seating capacities ranging from 11 to 14 seats, along with 56 minibuses accommodating 15 to 25 seats, have been imported, contributing to the diversification of electric mobility in the public sphere.

Additionally, another 166 vehicles equipped with electric motors have found their way into the market, reflecting the broader acceptance of electric propulsion systems.

The collective spending on these imported electric vehicles has reached an impressive 10 billion rupees.

A substantial portion of this expenditure, totaling 600 million rupees, is attributed solely to the importation of micro and minibuses, underscoring the growing investment in sustainable public transportation solutions.
