NC should contest NA elections leader independently: Dr. Shekhar Koirala

BIRATNAGAR: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala emphasized the need for the party to contest the National Assembly elections independently.

He argued that the party’s existence is at stake if it aligns with alliance parties for the electoral battle.

Speaking at Biratnagar Airport on Thursday, Dr. Koirala said that the Nepali Congress Mahasamiti meeting had to be deferred to prepare for the upcoming National Assembly elections.

However, he assured that the Mahasamiti meeting would take place on the scheduled date.

Expressing his reservations about the current government’s leadership, Dr. Koirala asserted that instilling hope in the people and overcoming economic challenges require a change in government leadership.

He underscored the importance of a leadership transition to uplift the nation from the prevailing economic downturn.

Dr. Koirala went on to suggest that Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal should promptly release the government’s annual report, emphasizing the executive role of the prime minister in a multi-party system.

He stated, “In a multi-party system, the prime minister is the executive. It makes no sense for the ministers to publish the report card. Nepali people, like myself, want to know what the Prime Minister has accomplished in one year. He should publish the report card immediately.”

As political dynamics continue to unfold, Dr. Koirala’s call for the Congress party to go solo in the National Assembly elections reflects a strategic stance aimed at ensuring the party’s distinct identity and impact in the upcoming electoral process.
