Finance Minister Mahat vows stringent measures against tax evasion

NUWAKOT: Finance Minister Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat has issued a stern warning, asserting the government’s intolerance towards any negligence on the part of telecom giant Ncell regarding tax evasion.

During a program organized by Nepali Congress (NC) in Nuwakot, Mahat disclosed the formation of a five-member committee, led by former Auditor General Tankamani Sharma, tasked with scrutinizing Ncell’s purchase and sale transactions.

Emphasizing that the regulation of Ncell falls under the Nepal Telecommunication Authority’s jurisdiction, Mahat firmly stated that the government would not hesitate to take action against anyone found attempting tax evasion.

The committee, including senior officials from the Finance Ministry, has been granted one month to conduct a comprehensive investigation.

Addressing broader political perspectives, Mahat urged political parties to focus on long-term goals rather than short-sighted ambitions. He emphasized the detrimental effects of political confusion, asserting, “Political parties lose credibility when they foster confusion.”
