KATHMANDU: A 41-year-old owner of Tri Netra Management Consultancies Pvt Ltd, Komalraj Upadhyaya, stands accused of defrauding 83 individuals, including Shriram Ranabhat, of a staggering Rs 2 crore 63 lakh 54 thousand 610.

The alleged fraud involved enticing victims with lucrative job opportunities in Dubai.

Originally from Sarlahi district, Upadhyaya had moved to Kageshwari Manohara Municipality-7 in Kathmandu.

The suspect, currently residing in Khalid Bin Al Waleed Road Al Raffa, Dubai, was apprehended by authorities in the UAE.

According to police, Upadhyaya allegedly exploited various means to collect funds, luring victims to Dubai on visit visas with promises of well-paying jobs.

However, upon arrival, the victims were left unemployed, leading to accusations of fraud.

Interpol issued a red notice on May 10, 2022, prompting an international search and arrest against Upadhyaya.

Coordinated efforts between the Nepal Police and Interpol resulted in his return to Nepal on December 15, 2023.

The Central Investigation Bureau of the Police Headquarters confirmed the arrest.

Upadhyaya now faces investigation by the Kathmandu District Court under Chapter 21 of the Civil Crimes Code, 2074, for offenses including fraud, criminal treachery, and criminal benefit (extortion).

The legal proceedings are underway as authorities seek justice for the victims of this alleged fraudulent scheme.
