KMC mobilizes police to enforce ban on sale of tobacco products

KATHMANDU: In an effort to enforce a ban on the sale, purchase, storage, and consumption of tobacco products, especially those wrapped in plastic pouches, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has taken a decisive step by mobilizing a metropolitan police force to monitor activities within its jurisdiction.

During a press conference held on Wednesday, the metropolis declared its intention to rigorously regulate the sale of tobacco products. Violators will face consequences, with the first and second instances of defiance resulting in the seizure of the products. Furthermore, any establishment found violating the order three times will be subject to closure.

Additionally, individuals caught consuming tobacco products within a 100-meter radius of public places will be fined Rs 100. This measure aims to discourage the use of tobacco in close proximity to areas frequented by the public, promoting a healthier and smoke-free environment.
