32 including Immigration Officer and NAC officials arrested in ‘human trafficking’ allegations

KATHMANDU: Thirty two people including the employees from the Department of Immigration (DOI) and Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC), engaged in the illicit business of human trafficking have been nabbed so far.

SSP Somendra Singh Rathore, the chief of the Metropolitan Crime Division, disclosed at the press conference that there have been a surge of human trafficking cases under the guise of foreign employment of late. This involves trafficking for fraud, sexual exploitation, organ harvesting, childbearing for rent, and forced labor.

Exploiting the dreams of foreign opportunities and luring unsuspecting young men and women with various temptations, traffickers have managed to send them to different countries.

Investigations have commenced into a group that allegedly involves some airline employees and their accomplices.

The police team arrested officials from DOI, including Narbir Khadka, NAC officials Arvin Yadav and Hom Pokharel, and agent Padam Lama in past two days.

Although two-way ticket issuance is mandatory for visit visa scheme, the officials were found to have generated fake return tickets and create other documents for visa modifications.

In this case, 32 individuals have been apprehended. Some proprietors of consultancy companies are among those detained.

According to the police, those arrested charged exorbitant amounts to individuals aspiring to go abroad, offering fake certificates, bank statements, police reports, and counterfeit visas.
