CIAA reaches SC against Special Court decisions

KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has lodged an appeal in the Supreme Court, expressing dissatisfaction with the judgments rendered by the Special Court.

Narahari Ghimire, the Authority’s spokesperson, conveyed that the appeal was filed due to dissatisfaction with the outcomes of several cases involving allegations of bribery and corruption, which were presented by the commission before the special court on various occasions.

The special court acquitted Deepak Bam, a mechanical engineer, and intermediary Nirak Bahadur Shahi in the bribery case, citing insufficient substantiation of evidence pertaining to the case files.

CIAA asserted that the court failed to consider crucial witnesses and relevant parties, thereby compromising the fairness of the acquittal verdict concerning individuals accused of bribery. The Authority highlighted concerns that the decision did not align with principles of fairness and omitted vital perspectives.
