KATHMANDU: The Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has instructed internet service providers to confirm their adherence to the government’s decision to ban the social media app TikTok.

In a public notice released today, NTA has given internet service providers a 24-hour deadline to submit responses, cautioning that failure to comply may lead to the cancellation of their licenses.

Surya Prasad Lamichhane, NTA’s deputy director and information officer, stated that a previous notice had been issued to all internet and mobile service providers, requesting information on the status of TikTok ban implementation. However, as of now, the NTA has not received any updates on the matter.

The government officially declared the ban on TikTok during a Cabinet meeting on November 13, citing concerns about its ‘negative impact’ on social harmony.
