Nepal to be developed as medical hub: Minister Basnet

KATHMANDU: Minister for Health and Population, Mohan Basnet, said Nepal is going to be developed as a ‘medical hub’ for learning medical education.

Speaking in the third National Health Summit organised by Nepal Medical Association, Minister Basnet pointed out the need of teaching medical education in Nepal to stop students going abroad for learning nursing and paramedical subjects as a huge amount has already been exported to foreign countries for the same.

He shared that no one should be deprived of treatment due to financial crisis.

“The constitution has guaranteed the free treatment to citizens. So patients having poor background will not be deprived of treatment in lack of money”, mentioned the Health Minister.

A provision has already been introduced where government hospitals have to provide free treatment to poor people up to 10 per cent of their total bed capacity said Minister Basnet, adding that an arrangement is being made to establish three medical colleges in each province.

Similarly, Health Minister of Bagmati Province, Uttam Joshi, stressed that the government should provide health services to citizens in an easy and smooth manner.

“The Bagmati Province has made arrangement of free health insurance of Rs 100,000 to the people from backward communities as well as going to make arrangement of free blood in all government hospitals of Kathmandu”, he mentioned.

The Summit began from Sunday will conclude today.
