Karnali Chief Minister calls for running agriculture-based industries

SURKHET: Chief Minister of Karnali Province Raj Kumar Sharma has urged the stakeholders to work to run industries being based on the raw materials from within the province adding that there are no such industries in Karnali.

At a program here organized by the Industry and Consumer Rights Protection Directorate on the occasion of Ninth National Industry Day on Saturday, the Chief Minister said that agriculture-based industries could not expand in the past due to lack of a specific focus on production of agricultural goods, which he termed a ‘feudalistic’ approach.

Sharma added that commercialization of agriculture is needed by producing specific products.

He also said that the Karnali Province Government is planning to segregate geographical clusters for the classification of agricultural goods.

Saying that clusters would be classified on the basis of a high mountain, mountain, hilly, and valley, the Chief Minister added that self-reliance on agriculture is likely if the production was emphasized on the basis of land classification.

On the occasion, Sharma shared that most of the industries in the province are running by importing raw materials from outside.

Likewise, he pledged to work in collaboration with the private sector and all other stakeholders for the industrial development in Karnali and the production of quality goods.
