PM Dahal emphasizes climate change as a severe threat to global society

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ highlighted the severe impact of climate change on human society, stating that it is a common threat that transcends political boundaries and affects the entire global community.

During the book release event for ‘Ecological Crisis: Common Challenge of Eight Billion People,’ authored by youth leader Bishal Khadka, held at Baluwatar, PM Dahal emphasized that climate change is a global issue with various ideological approaches, including those of capitalists and Marxists. He stressed the importance of acknowledging that the poor are not responsible for climate change.

PM Dahal assured that the CPN (Maoist Centre) and the current government are committed to addressing ecological concerns, particularly in the lead-up to COP28. He underlined the party’s dedication to tackling climate crises, as reflected in the discussions and documents presented during the 8th general convention.

“On the eve of COP28, I want to assure you that the Maoist Centre and the present government are serious and sensitive to ecology. We are equally worried over the future generation as a mother is to her children,” stated PM Dahal.

Maoist leader Ram Karki commended the book for providing guidance on protecting ecology, advocating for eco-friendly and community-centric development. The book encourages the return of community heritages to the communities themselves.

Lawmaker Biraj Bhakta Shrestha from the Rastriya Swatantra Party commented on the book, emphasizing its guidance on the impacts of climate change, resolutions, and the way forward. As nations, including Nepal, prepare for the upcoming UN Climate Summit, COP28, internal discussions are ongoing to address the concerns to be presented by Nepal.

Khadka’s book is praised for its clear explanation of the crisis posed by climate change and the argument for the necessity of Marxist ideology in its solution. (RSS)
