43 rhinos died in last fiscal year



CHITWAN: A total of 77 endangered wild animals including 43 rhinos died in the last fiscal year.

In the fiscal year 2018/19, 34 rhinos died in Chitwan National Park, other nine rhinos died in other areas. An investigation is underway to find out how such a big number of endangered species died in a single year, said Bed Kuamr Dhakal, conservation officer of Chitwan National Park.

Besides, eight tigers, wild boars and crocodiles and deer have also died during the year

Poachers had killed as many as 37 rhinos during the armed insurgency (2001).
