BIRATNAGAR: Member of the House of Representatives and Nepali Congress (NC) leader, Dr. Shekhar Koirala, lashed out at Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, accusing him of instigating turmoil in the country.

Addressing a book launch event in Biratanagar, Koirala lambasted the Prime Minister for allegedly fomenting unrest, threatening to mobilize millions onto the streets.

“Despite the nation’s collapsing economy, the Prime Minister’s threats of street protests have created fear among industrialists,” remarked the NC leader. “Approximately 35 percent of the 650,000 shutters nationwide remain shut, causing industrialists to flee, further fueling anxiety among them due to the looming specter of unrest.”

He attributed the public’s despondency to the government’s inability to curb corruption, address impunity, and uphold good governance.

“Though there’s a surge in plans for multiple universities and regional educational institutions, numerous colleges are shutting down,” Koirala highlighted. “Students, in queues, are departing for foreign shores. It’s imperative to uncover the underlying causes fueling this exodus.”

Koirala challenged the notion of free education in public schools, flagging concerns over these institutions unlawfully levying fees under the guise of English-medium education. He stressed that the country’s prosperity hinges on ensuring high-quality, cost-free secondary-level education.

Expressing apprehension about the consequences of youth migrating for foreign employment, Koirala underscored the resultant hardship for the elderly and familial disruptions, exacerbating societal distortions nationwide.

“Despite celebrating remittances from overseas, the state overlooks the worsening condition of the country,” he criticized. “Enhancing production is crucial for the nation’s sustenance, relying on the indispensable power of the youth.”
