BIRATNAGAR: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has blamed the political parties and their leadership for the people’s declining faith in the republic system.
During a press interaction at Biratnagar Airport, Dr. Koirala pointed out that the original purpose of establishing the republic seems to have been obscured by political motives. He questioned whether the initial aspiration for a republic was being overshadowed by corruption and impunity.
Dr. Koirala highlighted the need to reevaluate the true essence of the republic amidst political influence.
When asked about proactive measures for change, he stressed the importance of gradually developing effective leadership, emphasizing that change takes time.
Dr. Koirala urged the government to improve its functioning, noting widespread dissatisfaction among the public due to disorderly conduct by authorities. He emphasized the vital role of media opposition in pushing the government to improve and criticized recent divisive remarks made by the Prime Minister during a visit to Biratnagar, noting their negative impact on public sentiment.
Shifting focus, he commended Nepali Congress lawmakers from the Koshi for their role in supporting the NC candidate, highlighting their contribution to maintaining political stability. Reflecting on past decisions, he stressed the significance of strategic choices and their impact on the country’s political landscape.
Anticipating governmental expansion following the passing of the budget in the Koshi province, Dr. Koirala emphasized the need for corrective measures.
Regarding the ban on TikTok, he criticized the government’s decision, advocating for regulation rather than outright closure. Dr. Koirala highlighted responsible governance as crucial in handling such matters.
