Renowned Indian lyricist Sameer Anjaan to receive honor in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: Eminent Indian lyricist, Sameer Anjaan, is set to be honored in Kathmandu.

The Lunkarandas-Ganga Devi Chaudhary National Academy for Arts and Literature, in collaboration with the Lyricists Association of Nepal, will jointly felicitate Sameer on November 18.

The prolific lyricist, officially recognized by the Guinness World Records as the Most Prolific Bollywood Lyricist, has composed an astounding 3,524 different songs as of 2015.

Sameer, also known by his official name Shitala Pandey, has contributed lyrics to over 4,000 songs for more than 650 films since his musical career debut in 1983.

Many of his compositions, featured in Bollywood movies, have garnered popularity among Nepali music enthusiasts.

Sameer’s iconic creations, including ‘Pradeshi Pardeshi,’ ‘Tum Pasa Aaye,’ ‘Mera Dil Bhi Kitna Pagal Hai,’ ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham,’ ‘Mujhe Neend Na Aaye,’ ‘Tum Dil Ki Dhadkan Mein,’ among others, resonate strongly with both Indian and Nepali audiences.

Megha Chaudhary, the Chairperson of the Academy, expressed her pleasure in honoring the renowned lyricist Sameer in Nepal.

Similarly, Basanta Bityashi Thapa, the Chairperson of the Lyricists Association, emphasized the Association’s goal to encourage songwriting.

Thapa echoed Chaudhary’s sentiments, stating that felicitating the world-renowned lyricist Sameer in Nepal would be a matter of pride for Nepali artists.
