SURKHET: A meeting of the CPN-Maoist Center Karnali province secretariat has demanded the government arrange disaster risk residence insurance.

The meeting of the province secretariat comprising province and district in-charge, central members, and province chairpersons on Wednesday called for the federal government to place disaster risk residence insurance and natural disaster risk mass accidental insurance scheme for all citizens.

The decision was made taking into consideration the high level potential risk of the devastating earthquake in Western Nepal, informed Maoist Center’s Deputy General Secretary and Karnali Province In-charge, Matrika Prasad Yadav.

The secretariat meeting also urged three tiers of governments to declare the recent earthquake-hit districts as crisis zones and formulate special action plans for disaster response and immediate rehabilitation through wider mobilization of resources.

Yadav said the meeting also demanded the formation of a high-powered reconstruction authority for the rebuilding of earthquake-ravaged structures.

“The meeting called for the government to lay emphasis on treatment, relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction after completing remaining works related to relief”, he said.

The meeting directed the concerned district committees for mobilizing teams under the leadership of central and province committee members in the completely ravaged wards for rescue, relief, temporary residence, food, clothing, treatment, and psycho-social counseling as well as for the collection of loss and damage.

The Maoist Center Karnali Province decided to deposit Rs 500,000 to the government relief fund for earthquake survivors’ relief and rehabilitation.
