Koshi province getting parliamentary committee one year after election

BIRATNAGAR: A year after the province assembly elections, the parliamentary committee selection process has started in Koshi province.

The political parties have sent the names of the members of the seven committees of the province assembly, which is considered a ‘mini parliament’, to the province assembly secretariat.

“Parties have sent a list of who will be in which committee to the State Assembly Secretariat,” Nepali Congress lawmaker Bhupendra Rai said, “Now the selection process will begin.”

The parliamentary committee is leaderless so far, even the Province Assembly is sans Speaker since long.

There are 7 thematic committees in the province. The province has Justice, Administration and Legislation Committee, Natural Resources and Infrastructure Development Committee, Governance and Planning Committee, Social Development Committee, Finance Committee, Industry, Tourism and Environment Committee and Public Accounts Committee.

There are 93 lawmakers in Koshi. There are 40 lawmakers from CPN-UML, 29 from Nepali Congress, 13 from CPN-Maoist Center, 6 from Rastriya Prajatantra Party, 4 from CPN-Unified Socialist and one from Janata Samajbadi Party, including the Deputy Speaker.
