ANFA dispute: Special General Assembly to discuss only on agenda relating to president

KATHMANDU: The All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) is set to hold its special General Assembly on November 9 in Hetauda, in response to a demand made by 40 percent of its members in August. These members had called for the removal of President Pankaj Bikram Nembang and general secretary Kiran Rai.

Despite the demand for discussions on both agendas, ANFA has sent a letter to its members indicating that only the agenda relating to the president will be addressed.

Previously, ANFA had contacted FIFA to inquire about the possibility of adding the agenda relating to the dismissal of the general secretary. FIFA received an email on October 3, which outlined the demand from 40 percent of ANFA members for the dismissal of both the president and general secretary. It was also argued that the general secretary’s agenda should be presented to the assembly, as there is a provision for the Executive Committee to appoint the general secretary within the president’s proposal.

FIFA responded to this email on October 4, stating that they had reviewed the ANFA statute. Based on the ANFA’s statute, FIFA informed that the General Assembly has the authority to dismiss all members, including the general secretary. In the email, FIFA recommended that the agenda of the general secretary could also be included in the General Assembly.

Karma Chhiring Sherpa, the former president of ANFA and the president of the Himalayan Sherpa Club, emphasized that the General Assembly has the power to dismiss the general secretary and argued that the exclusion of this agenda is contrary to the ANFA law. He also criticized the removal of the agenda, considering it to be against the principles of a significant general meeting for any organization.
