UN Secretary-General Guterres arrives in Lumbini



LUMBINI: United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, currently on an official visit to Nepal, arrived in Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha.

After reaching the Annapurna Base Camp earlier today, Guterres reached Lumbini from the Gautam Buddha International Airport in Pokhara.

Making his way from the airport to Lumbini by helicopter, Secretary-General Guterres was received by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, along with several dignitaries including Culture Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Sudan Kiranti, among others.

During his visit, the Secretary-General will participate in a formal program for approximately an hour and a half, as outlined by the Lumbini Development Fund.

His itinerary includes a visit to the Mayadevi Temple, where he will offer prayers through the Shanti Deep and take a symbolic walk from Shanti Deep to the Mayadevi Temple.

A key highlight of the visit is Guterres’ planned address to the press, where he is expected to deliver a message advocating for global peace and unity.

This visit to Lumbini by the United Nations Secretary-General after nearly 15 years is being widely regarded as significant, echoing the importance of the site on an international scale.

Lumbini holds immense cultural and spiritual significance, making it a symbol of peace and harmony for people worldwide.
