BIRATNAGAR: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has asserted that the government formation in the Koshi province will not disrupt the ruling coalition at the federal level and other provinces.
Leader Koirala, who hails from Biratnagar, made this statement during a conversation with members media at the Biratnagar airport.
He explained that the collaboration with the CPN-UML in forming the government was primarily aimed at postponing the mid-term elections, given the intricate dynamics of the Koshi province assembly.
Koirala emphasized that the formation of Koshi government with different parties would not affect the ruling alliance at the federal government, or other provinces.
Koirala also mentioned that the Koshi province cabinet would be expanded following the Dashain festival. He further noted that the government formation with the UML was a strategic move to avert the risk of mid-term elections in the province, particularly when no single party had the majority to establish a government.
The leaders of the ruling coalition at federal level agreed to grant leadership of the Koshi government to Indra Angbo of CPN-Maoist. However, Kedar Karki, representing the Koirala faction of the Congress, expressed dissatisfaction with this agreement and, with UML’s support, staked his claim for the position of Chief Minister.
After Karki’s appointment as Chief Minister, a three-member cabinet was formed by adding two ministers. Chief Minister Karki secured a vote of confidence from the state assembly, receiving the support of all parties except the Rastriya Prajatantra Party.
