Had Oli agreed, NC-UML govt would have been formed: Gagan Thapa

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Gagan Thapa made a revelation, asserting that the opportunity to establish a joint Nepali Congress-UML government on December 26 was squandered due to UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli’s rejection of the proposed agreement.

Speaking at a program in Kathmandu on Thursday, Thapa stated that despite negotiations between party President Sher Bahadur Deuba and UML Chairman Oli, the initiative failed to materialize.

“We remain uncertain about the pre-election commitments,” Thapa remarked.

“However, on December 26, our President Deuba — considering the NC’s substantial presence — advocated for NC to lead the government, a decision that seemed natural,” Thapa said.

Despite NC President Deuba’s efforts, the deal fell through. UML Chairman Oli disregarded the NC President’s assertion and declined to extend support, preventing the realization of a Congress-led UML government, according to Thapa.
