MUSTANG: Prime Minister (PM) Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has pledged nearly Rs 500 million to be allocated to Mustang district for averting the perils caused by climate change.

During his speech at a program in Mustang today, the Prime Minister stated, “Approximately 500 million has been secured from an international organization, of which Rs 50 million will be designated to aid Mustang.”

Prime Minister Dahal emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to preserving the historical significance, geographical uniqueness, cultural heritage, traditions, and productivity of the Mustang district.

Highlighting the global dimension of the challenge, Prime Minister Dahal underscored that climate change poses not just a national concern but an international one.

“Unprecedented melting of snow in the Himalayan region, caused by climate change, has had a severe impact on both people’s livelihoods and the local ecosystem,” he remarked.

He also informed the audience about his efforts to draw global attention to the dire effects of climate change in Nepal at the United Nations General Assembly in New York and the United Nations Conference on Food in Rome, Italy.

Discussing the consequences of inaction, he warned, “Neglecting the environmental devastation in the Himalayas and the broader region could lead to a catastrophic human and environmental disaster on a global scale, if the international community does not prioritize the Global Fund for this region.”

Furthermore, he announced his participation in the upcoming COP-28 conference on climate change, where he intends to once again raise awareness about this critical issue on the global stage.
