KATHMANDU: Kedar Karki, the recently appointed Chief Minister of Koshi Province, has welcomed the end of political instability and affirmed his commitment to forming a consensus government.
Speaking to reporters after his swearing-in ceremony as Chief Minister on Sunday, Karki stated, “The possibility of a mid-term election in Koshi has vanished. The provincial assembly will not be dissolved. We are now working towards establishing a consensus government.”
Chief Minister Karki has already appointed one minister each from the dissident faction of the Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML parties. His appointment as Chief Minister came with the support of 8 members from the NC and 39 members from the UML on Saturday.
Although Karki rebelled against his party’s decision to form a coalition government excluding UML, Prime Minister, and CPN-Maoist Center Chairman later decided to support Karki in forming a government so as to make him the Chief Minister from the ruling coalition.
Karki visited NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala, and UML Chairman KP Oli after being appointed the Chief Minister. Despite the ruling coalition’s attempt to prevent UML from joining the Koshi government, the newly appointed Chief Minister Karki hinted at his intention to include UML by appointing one minister today.
