Nepal anticipating complete exit of monsoon

KATHMANDU: The monsoon season has gradually receded from various provinces in Nepal, with reports of its departure from Sudurpaschim and Karnali provinces preceding the recent update regarding Bagmati and Madhes provinces.

The Meteorological Forecasting Division has confirmed the monsoon’s departure from Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, and most regions of Madhes province since Saturday.

It is predicted that the remaining parts of the nation will witness the exit of the monsoon within a few days.

Despite the ongoing departure of the monsoon, the Division has issued a cautionary statement forecasting the likelihood of general to moderate rainfall from Monday to Wednesday.

This forecast attributes the expected rainfall to the influence of the Westerly wind, set to arrive tonight, potentially bringing intermittent to light rain.

To assist farmers during this transitional period, Meteorologist Pratibha Manandhar has advised against the immediate harvesting of their paddy crop.

For those who have already commenced harvesting, Manandhar recommends threshing and storing the crop by today.

Furthermore, Manandhar emphasized that the weather is expected to improve only from Wednesday onward, as the eastern region of the country still awaits the full exit of the monsoon, with only a partial impact observed at present.

his year’s monsoon has not fully retreated from Nepal as anticipated, extending its stay beyond the typical departure date of October 2, marking its exit as of October 15.

Regarding the current atmospheric conditions, Meteorologist Govinda Jha highlighted that although the skies might clear during the afternoon, haziness is likely to persist in the morning and evening due to prevalent atmospheric pollution and particulate matter, caused by the absence of rain.
