Partnership with private sector must to reduce unemployment: Minister Mahat

KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat has said cooperation and collaboration between the government and private sector is essential to address the unemployment problem in Nepal.

Minister Mahat viewed professional and skill-based training should be provided based on market needs.

Speaking at a program in Kathmandu, he said that only demand-based training can create jobs and contribute to the national economy.

He stressed on producing competent workers in the wake of exodus of Nepalis to foreign lands for employment.

It is worrying that the country has a shortage of both competent human resources and employment opportunities, he added.

Minister Mahat commented that although many institutions including the Labour Department, Department of Foreign Employment and private sectors were providing training, they were yet to be result-oriented.
