KATHMANDU: The relief teachers in Baneshwor took to the streets after a police intervention during their protest.

On Wednesday, police officers intervened in the protest staged by relief teachers in Baneshwor. The teachers had gathered in a restricted area, prompting the police to step in.

Following the police intervention, the protesting teachers proceeded to block the streets in Baneshwor, causing disruptions in the area.

These relief teachers have mobilized in a public demonstration, demanding amendments to the Education Bill to address their concerns. Their primary demand is to convert relief positions into permanent ones through internal competition, ensuring a 100% permanent workforce, while also accounting for their temporary service period.

Previously, the government had made certain concessions after a large-scale protest organized by the Nepal Teachers Federation from September 20 to 22. However, the relief teachers argue that these agreements fall short of their expectations.

Their protests have taken various forms, including sleeping on the streets on Monday and creating noise disruptions with whistles on Tuesday.
