SC issues show cause order for not filing case against former PM duo Nepal and Bhattarai

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has issued a show-cause order demanding an explanation for the failure to register cases against former Prime Ministers Madhav Kumar Nepal and Baburam Bhattarai in the Lalita Niwas land grab case.

Today, a single bench presided over by Justice Vinod Sharma directed the government to clarify why legal action has not been initiated against the former prime ministers in the Lalita Niwas land case.

Senior advocate Balakrishna Neupane had submitted a writ petition to the Supreme Court, highlighting the immunity extended to the former prime ministers in connection with Lalita Niwas. Following the preliminary hearing of the writ petition, the court ordered the government to furnish a written response.

Furthermore, the court has directed the submission of two previously filed writ petitions.

The writ petition specifically requests that legal proceedings be initiated against the former prime ministers in the Lalita Niwas case, alleging their involvement in the land controversy.
