KATHMANDU: Haribabu Chaudhary, the former Chief of the National Investigation Department, has voiced his concern over the recent statement made by the Chinese ambassador, Chen Song, calling it a breach of diplomatic decorum.
Speaking at the ‘China Relations: Non-Diplomatic Practice’ event organized by Rastriya Ekata Abhiyan in Kathmandu, Chaudhary emphasized the need for responsible conduct to safeguard national integrity and prevent Nepal from becoming an international battleground.
He stressed that maintaining smooth relations with friendly nations requires responsible communication, and diplomats making irresponsible statements should be held accountable under the law.
Chairman of Abhiyan Vinay Yadav condemned the undiplomatic remarks of the Chinese ambassador and called for the ambassador’s expulsion from the country.
Yadav accused China of attempting to erode Nepal’s culture and religion, advocating for Nepal to be declared a Hindu nation and opposing China’s efforts to influence Tibet.
President Yadav appealed to preserve the nation’s sovereignty and protested against any depiction of Nepal’s territory on China’s maps.
BP Yadav, a senior leader of the Campaign, joined the chorus of opposition to the Chinese ambassador’s statement and expressed support for the ongoing teachers’ movement in Kathmandu.
Senior journalist Yuganath Sharma Paudel accused the Chinese ambassador of dragging Nepal into a conflict and urged both India and China not to involve Nepal in their disputes.
He clarified that Nepal’s boundaries extend to Manosarobar, which is currently in Tibet.
Analyst Buddha Tshiring Moktan also criticized the Chinese ambassador’s statement and suggested that Nepal should aim for a path to prosperity akin to that of Singapore.
Professor Bijay Mahaseth added his voice to the opposition against the Chinese ambassador, stressing that Nepal should not engage in activities that go against the interests of China or India.
