KATHMANDU: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has said that the smuggling of additional 302 kg of gold concealed within brake shoes was brought into Nepal prior to the latest gold smuggling episode.
While the investigation continues to scrutinize gold hidden in various other commodities, the CIB, which initially probed the smuggling of over 60 kg of gold, is set to submit its report to the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Kathmandu today.
CIB Chief Kiran Bajracharya, during a pre-submission press conference, disclosed that 50 individuals have been named as defendants in this sprawling case.
The revelations came to light during warehouse raids, which unveiled an additional cache of gold smuggled using the same brake shoe method.
In a significant development, the CIB’s investigation into the gold smuggling case has determined that an extra 302 kg of gold was illicitly transported by ingeniously concealing it within brake shoes. Bajracharya remarked, “Upon weighing the brake shoes, it has come to our attention that an additional 302.62 kg of gold has been surreptitiously brought into the country.”
