Monsoon-induced death toll climbs to 19



KATHMANDU: The death toll from landslides and floods caused by monsoon has reached 19. According to Nepal Police headquarters, Naxal, the eight people have gone missing in the disaster.

According to the latest records, three people of a family died in Mulpani of Kathmandu. The deceased have been identified as Nitu Yadav, Sarmila Yadav and 10-year-old Kundan Yadav of Bara, currently staying at Mulpani, Kageshwari Manahara Municipality. Similarly, three members of a family died at Baplukha in Khotang district.

Two people died after a landslide fell onto their house at Nala in Banepa Municipality-3, Kavre district. The deceased have been identified as Goma Dangal, 55, and her 7-year-old granddaughter Sohani Dangal. Her daughter-in-law Sushila,30 and 3-month-old granddaughter have been injured.

In yet another incident, 45-year-old Padam Kumari Sunuwar buried to death by landslides in Ramechhap district. Jagat Bahadur Rai, 66, of Basikhor of Ram Prasad Rai Rural Municipality-7 died after a compound wall caved in.

Similarly, a minor boy died after being swept away by floods in Parsagadhi Municipality in Parsa district. The deceased has been identified as Nikhil Patel, 10, of Parsagadhi Municipality-1, said police.

Sanchana Balami died after being swept away by swollen Mahabhir rivulet in Thaha Municipality in Makwanpur district.
