17 killed, 5 missing as monsoon wreaks havoc across country



KATHMANDU: At least 17 people have lost their lives and 13 others sustained injuries due to monsoon across the country, according to National Emergency Operation Center of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

As of now, 3 died in Khotang, 3 in Kathmandu,  2 in Kavre, 2 in Bhojpur, 7 including 1 each in Lalitpur, Makwanpur, Parsa, Mahottari, Ramechhap, Sindhuli and Dhading, said Home Ministry. Five others have gone missing in the disasters.

Three people of a family died after the wall of their neighbor’s house caved in Mulpani of the Kathmandu Valley. Those buried to death are identified as Kundan Yadav, Sarmila Yadav and Nilu Yadav, confirmed Metropolitan Police Circle, Bouddha.

Similarly, three people of a family died after their house collapsed at Baplukha in Khotehang Rural Municipality, Khotang. Bishnu Rai’s wife Rekha and his sons Roman and Rohan died after the landslide buried their house.

Five people have gone missing in the floods and landslides according to the latest records of the Home Ministry. Five people including 1 each in Morang, Sunsari, Mahottari, Parsa and Kathmandu have gone missing, said the Home Ministry.

Likewise, 13 others have been injured in the landslides and floods. According to the ministry, 2 sustained injuries in Siraha, 1 in Sarlahi, 5 in Rautahat, 1 in Khotang, 2  in Kavre, 1 in Lalitpur.
